Step 1 (Have an adult help.) Read the paint directions. These paints aren't toxic, but don't paint the inside of the mug or anything else that comes in direct contact with food or drinks. Cover the table with newspapers. |
Step 2 Wash the mug with soap and water and dry it. The mug must be clean and dry before you paint. Your hands should be clean, also. Wear a smock since these paints are permanent once they are dry. |
Step 3 Shake the paint bottles. Squeeze a small blob of paint onto the plate. Paint the mug with a medium coat of paint. Your strokes shouldn't be too thick or too thin. If you make a mistake, simply wipe the paint off with the damp rag and try again. |
Step 4 When you are finished painting, clean your brush with water. Let the painted mug dry for at least 6 hours. |
Step 5 (Have an adult help.) Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Place the painted mug on the baking sheet. Put the sheet on the middle rack of the oven and bake for 40 minutes. Be sure to open a window or turn on the oven fan so the kitchen is well ventilated as the mug bakes. |
Step 6 (Have an adult help.) Use the pot holders to remove the baking sheet from the oven. Let the mug cool completely before you handle it. When it's cool, wrap it up and give it to someone special. You can fill the mug with goodies and attach ribbons to the handle, or your picture to a tea bag, for a heart melting touch. |
