Step 1 Cut designs from the wrapping paper, making sure the designs will fit on the front of the framing mat. Then rip the tissue paper into pieces, each about 1 inch wide and 1 inch tall. (Don't forget heart designs!) |
Step 2 Cover the table with waxed paper to protect it. Hold the mat in your hand. Use the brush to lightly apply Mod Podge to one corner. Coat the front, sides, and back of the mat. Hold the mat gently, so it doesn't bend. |
Step 3 Put a piece of tissue paper onto the wet Mod Podge, wrapping the tissue paper around the edge of the mat. Lightly brush more Mod Podge on top of the tissue paper to hold it in place. |
Step 4 Put another piece of tissue paper onto the mat, overlapping the new piece onto the first piece. Lightly brush Mod Podge on top of this new piece. Keep adding Mod Podge and tissue paper to the mat in this way until the whole mat is covered. |
Step 5 Lay the mat flat on the waxed paper to dry thoroughly. This will take about an hour. While the mat is drying, clean the brush by rinsing it in water. |
Step 6 To add designs to the mat, dab Mod Podge onto the mat, lay the design on it, and dab Mod Podge on top. Don't go over the designs too many times with Mod Podge, or the tissue paper color will smear. Let mat dry. |
