Cut batting in half lengthwise; glue one section each to front and back of cardboard rectangle. Referring to diagram below and adding 1/2" all around, cut out the following: in black, one complete piece (indicated by solid outline); in burgundy, one of each section (indicated by broken lines): also in burgundy, two rectangles each 3/4" x 4-1/2" (tie bar holders) and 3/4" x 2-1/2" (buttonloops). |
With right sides together, fold each tie bar holder rectangle in half lengthwise; stitch close to raw edge using 1/4" seam. Trim seam and turn to right side. Place one complete tie bar holder across width of center burgundy section 2-1/2" from top: place sectioned toe bar holder 2-1/2" from bottom edge; baste in place along side edges. Assemble buttonloop rectangles in same manner as tie bar holders. Fold each in half widthwise to form a loop; baste raw edges of each to edge of burgundy fabric indicated by star on diagram. | With right sides together, stitch burgundy sides together along long edges to form one complete section. With right sides together, stitch front to back using 1/2" seams and leaving bottom of center section unstitched. Turn to right side; press, insert card board along center section; slipstitched opening closed. |
From remaining burgundy fabric, cut two circles 1 1/2" in diameter. Stitch a row of gathering stitches close to edge. Place button in center of wrong side of circle; draw gathers together and secure. Stitch button in place to correspond with button loop placement. |
