Here is another variation of a Wonderland party! Decorate the party area with paper flowers. As the kids come in have a variety of hats that they can choose from or let them make a hat as they come in. They can decorate the hats with flowers and bows. You can even provide dress up clothes so they can get spruced up for the party. If you have a Polaroid you can take pictures and then give them each one to take home.
Food and Cakes
Serve the food on a tea set. In the tea pot serve juice.
Dirt Cake
- 1/2 stick margarine
- 1 cup sugar
- 8 ounces cream cheese
Cream together and set aside.
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 2 (3 oz.) boxes instant French vanilla pudding mix
- 8 oz. Cool Whip
Mix milk and pudding mix and fold in Cool Whip. Mix with cheese mixture.
- 1 package Oreo cookies
- 1 flower pot
- 1 bunch silk flowers
- 1 trowel
- plastic fishing worms or gummy worms or bugs
Mix cookies in blender or food processor (or crush in Ziploc bag until medium fine).
Note: Wash flower pot and trowel thoroughly. You may use a plastic container that fits into the flower pot. Or, use a Cool Whip lid in the bottom of the flower pot so the mixture won't leak out.
Put a layer of crushed cookies in the bottom of your container, then a layer of pudding mix, alternate, ending up with a layer of cookies on top. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Plant flowers and then place worms or bugs coming out of the cookies (dirt) and on the flowers. Serve with trowel. A great conversational piece! Also tastes scrumptious! Serves 14 to 20. You can also use miniature clay pots for individual dirt cakes.
Miniature Cinnamon Rolls
Make a regular batch of yeast cinnamon rolls but roll into smaller rolls.
Sandwiches
Make sandwiches and then use cookie cutters to cut them into different shapes. If you do not use cookie cutters at least cut them small so they have finger sandwiches.
Games and Activities:
Potpourri Bags
- Dried potpourri
- 2 - 6 inch pieces of material
- Pinking shears
- Pins
- Needle and thread
- Colored ribbon
Cut two pieces of material into 6-inch squares with pinking shears. Pin together with right sides together and sew along the three sides. Clip the two bottom corners. Turn bag right side out and fill with potpourri. Leaving, a long end of thread, sew running stitches around the bag from the top. Pull the two ends together tightly to close the bag. Tie a know. Tie some colored ribbon around the bag to decorate.
Depending on the age of the kids and how much time you want to spend on this you could do some of this ahead of time. You could have different kids of potpourri out in bowls. You could also have the bags made with the running threads in them (might try using cross stitching thread for kids that might have trouble getting a hold of the thin regular thread). Use your scrap material to save money. Have different bags out and let the kids pick which they want and then fill with the potpourri of their choice. You can also have different ribbons already out and precut that they can choose from to decorate. This is a great activity and also gives them something to take home with them.
Plant a Plant
Using their individual clay pots from their dirt cake you can give them each a cheap bucket or watering can with a ziploc bag of dirt and a flower or seeds. You can then help them each plant their flower or seed. Then they have their bucket or watering can and flower to take home.
Other games might include hot potato or croquet.
