Shortcut/Tip January 30, 1999: Cardboard Strip Lifts Staples Here's how to keep from driving staples too deep for easy removal when you only want to fasten work temporarily. Slide a thin strip of cardboard narrower than the staple's span, under the tacker's nose before sqeezing its lever. When the strips are pulled out, a screwdriver tip can be run under the raised staples to lift them out without gouging the surface of your work.
