A 1937 favorite has survived, and it’s been re-released on DVD. Almost four generations later, the curly-haired Shirley Temple can still charm children’s hearts with her delightful rendition of “Heidi.” Based on Johanna Spyri’s classic novel, Heidi tells the story of a little orphan girl whose life is dominated by her evil Aunt. A pouting little Temple wants nothing more than to be in the mountains with her beloved Grandfather. But first she is destined to spread goodwill to her Aunt’s lonely invalid daughter. A heartwarming story heralding the transforming power of love, “Heidi” will stand the test of time. Although the DVD recording reveals an aged, low-quality original filming, your family will nonetheless be delighted. Understandably, this film has little to no extra material available, but you can watch it in both black-and-white and color. Perhaps most enchanting is the adorable Miss Temple, the eternal 9-year-old whose dimpled smile still charms on cue. “Heidi” is rated G, and it’s sure to be a family favorite. That’s Children’s Video/DVD Review. Check back next week
