Police in Zimbabwe have arrested the editor of the privately-owned pro-opposition newspaper, The Standard.  | | Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) President Arthur Mutambara (14 April 2007 file photo) | Zimbabwean journalists say Davison Maruziva was arrested Thursday, over an opinion piece that appeared in The Standard last month. The article was written by Arthur Mutambara, an official in the opposition Movement for Democratic Change. Meanwhile, a photographer for the Reuters news agency has also been detained in Zimbabwe for allegedly using a satellite phone to transmit pictures. Reuters has called for the immediate release of Howard Burditt, a Zimbabwean national, who has been held by police in the capital, Harare, since Monday. Zimbabwean officials say it is illegal to use a satellite phone unless it has been registered. Rights groups and the MDC say Zimbabwe's ruling party is trying to intimidate opponents of President Robert Mugabe ahead of a possible run-off election. On Wednesday, Zimbabwean police arrested a lawyer on charges of insulting the president. Harrison Mkomo allegedly said that Zimbabwe is suffering under Mr. Mugabe's 28-year rule.
