With the recent smattering of CGI animated features came Nickelodeon’s contribution, “Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius.” While not as detailed and realistic as “Shrek” or “Ice Age,” “Jimmy Neutron” still holds its own. It’s sort of a cross between “Rugrats” and “Dexter’s Laboratory,” a kind of twisted-yet-hilarious humor that’s both weird and innovative. James Isaac Neutron is a genius who loves to invent…but hasn’t quite perfected his skills. He and his cyberdog Goddard are frequently fixing inventions gone awry, and it’s this premise that sets the scene for the movie’s plot. In a moment of rare success, Jimmy creates a working communications satellite out of his mother’s toaster. Disaster strikes, however, when egg-shaped aliens pick up the signal and decide to kidnap the adults in Jimmy’s hometown. Can Jimmy rescue the grown-up world before they’re sacrificed to the alien chicken-god? Your kids will laugh as Jimmy tries to save the day with amusement park rides turned into spaceships. The cast of animated characters is more than a bit amusing, especially the would-be superhero, Sheen. Just remember, one thing: “Jimmy Neutron” is targeted at children between the ages of 5 and 10 years old. Don’t expect the adult humor of “Shrek,” or be annoyed at the movie’s childish antics. It’s a kid movie, just like it’s supposed to be…and it succeeds on most levels. That’s Children’s Video/DVD Review. Check back next week
