A series of roadside bombings have killed at least five foreign troopsthroughout Afghanistan, capping a violent week in the war-torn nation.
InSaturday's deadliest incident, the U.S.-led coalition says four of itssoldiers were killed in an explosion in the southern province ofKandahar. Militants also opened fire on the troops. The statement didnot specify the soldiers' nationalities.
In eastern Paktikaprovince, Polish defense officials say a roadside bomb Saturday killed aPolish soldier serving with NATO forces. Four other soldiers were alsoinjured.
The U.S.-led coalition says another one of its soldierswas killed in a roadside bombing late Friday in the southwestern Farahprovince. The soldier's nationality was not released.
AndAfghan police say two Afghan soldiers were killed and three otherswounded Saturday, when a bomb exploded in the southern province of Zabul.
Separately,Afghan officials say a suspected Taliban rocket hit a hospital inAsadabad, the capital of eastern Kunar province, Saturday, killing oneperson and injuring two others.
Also, the U.S.-led coalitionsays today that several militants were killed in operations throughoutAfghanistan, including Kapisa and Kandahar provinces.
Afghan andNATO forces conducted a major operation in Kandahar this week, clearingTaliban militants from the Arghandab district.
Saturday, a topAfghan military official increased the militant death toll from theoperation, saying Afghan troops had counted the bodies of 94 insurgentsin Arghandab. He said most of the militants were foreigners fromPakistan. Another 30 Taliban insurgents were detained.
