Undisputed is a terrific movie...
Undisputed is a terrific movie. It’s written in the style of the classic Warner Bros. “B” movies. And that’s a good thing, as long as it can live up to the reputation. And Undisputed does. The movie focuses on 'Iceman' Chambers, heavyweight champion of the world, and recently convicted of rape. The plot was obviously inspired by Mike Tyson's misadventures. 'Iceman' is sentenced to the maximum-security Sweetwater Prison in the Mohave Desert, which has an active boxing program. The Sweetwater champion is Monroe Hutchen, and a showdown between the two men is inevitable. But first, Iceman has to challenge the leader of the most powerful gang behind bars, and spend some times in solitary as punishment. If he hadn't done that, he explains, he'd be dead. And Monroe has to hear stories about how he's not the undisputed champion any longer. Undisputed was co-written and directed by Walter Hill, who has devoted his career to men's action pictures. He pitted Charles Bronson and James Coburn against each other in his first picture, 'Hard Times' and reinvented the cop buddy movie with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in '48 HRS.' While Undisputed doesn’t have a definable hero, it does have what many other movies don’t—well-defined characters who get in your face, tell it like it is and make no excuses for who they are. Undisputed stars Ving Rhames, Wesley Snipes, Peter Falk, Fisher Stevens and Ed Lover, and it’s rated R.And that’s the movie review for this week.
