If you’re over 4 years old and you haven’t yet seen...
If you’re over 4 years old and you haven’t yet seen “A Troll in Central Park”…don’t. Seriously, it isn’t worth your time. The storyline is flat, the characterization is next to nil, and, to put it bluntly, you aren’t missing anything. If, however, you have a preschool-aged child who is begging you to let her watch this Don Bluth animated feature, then I’d say go ahead. It won’t hurt anything. The colors are vibrant, the scenes are at least a little amusing, and the kids will probably enjoy it. Plus, the voice talent is fabulous, with Dom DeLuise heading up the crew as Stanley, the troll. Stanley finds himself transplanted to Central Park, a world where he gets chased by dogs and eventually ends up nearly being eaten in an old man’s soup. “A Troll in Central Park” delivers no strong message other than “bad guys are bad,” but it has some short save-the-earth quips and a few fun little songs. All in all, it’s not a horrible movie…just nothing to write home about. That’s Children’s Video/DVD Review. Check back next week
