The Time Machine is the remake of the 1960s film...

The Time Machine is the remake of the 1960s film. Based on the H.G. Wells novel, this version was co-written and directed by Wells’ grandson, Simon. The movie opens in turn-of-the-century New York, where absent-minded associate professor Alexander Hartdegan is devastated by the murder of his fiancée, Emma. Four years later, Hartdegan has created a horseless carriage that takes him back through time, enabling him to save Emma. But when Hartdegan decides he can't change the past, he resolves to visit the future and learn why. Amid several great visual effects, including a truly awesome lunar apocalypse, he does just that. Unfortunately for him the answer to his question isn’t as enlightening as we’d like it to be. On the plus side, Mark Addy is endearing as Hartdegan's friend Philby, and both Irish songstress Samantha Mumba and her real-life brother, Omero are naturals. The usually charismatic Pearce, however, shows all the emotional range of a rock. Equally astonishing is Jeremy Irons as the big-brain Uber-Morlock, who reads minds and memories, getting suckered like Homer Simpson. The film has entertaining moments but it could have been better, especially with Wells at the helm. The Time Machine stars Guy Pearce, Samantha Mumba, Jeremy Irons, Orlando Jones, Mark Addy and Sienna Guillory, and it’s rated PG-13. That’s Video/DVD Review. Check back next week.
