This week we’re making doily bowls...
This week we’re making doily bowls. First, you’ll need a glass bowl and a lace doily. Be sure to use a bowl that fits in the doily. Get a piece of wax paper to cover the outside of the bowl. Turn the bowl upside down and shape the wax paper over it. Place them on a flat cooling rack. Now pour a small amount of liquid starch into a different bowl. (This one can be a small bowl.) Place the lace doily into the starch. Using your fingers, be sure to completely saturate the doily with starch. Now squeeze all the starch out of the doily. Spread the doily over the wax paper-covered bowl. Position it carefully, because you’re trying to created a lace-decorated bowl. Place rubber bands around the bowl to hold it in place. Now let your creation dry for about 3 days. Once the doily is completely dry, remove it from the bowl. Wash and dry the bowl, then place the bowl back into the doily. Throw away the wax paper. Now you can fill the bowl with candy, potpourri, candles…anything you think you like! Have fun, and as always, be sure to get permission from your parents before starting.
